A friend sent me this link to J. K. Rowling's Harvard commencement address, which really is among the better commencement addresses I've heard. (I work at a University, so I hear one every May....)

And from the sublime to the ridiculous, this brief video about medieval music.

Sunday morning I walked around the neighborhood taking photos of storm damage. Then we both visited the optometrist/optician to order new glasses. Sounds like we both need progressive lenses (welcome to middle age), and we're both ordering sunglasses at the same time, so it was an expensive afternoon. Then we walked the Things in the park, where there were also some downed trees. Oddly enough, the downed trees in the park didn't feel to me like "damage" in the same way as those in our residential neighborhood: everywhere a tree came down, there's suddenly an open sunny spot where other things will grow more easily, and there's a tangle of branches near the ground where things will nest and hide from predators.

Monday: took the train into Manhattan to visit the farmers' market (which isn't as awesome on Monday as on Saturday, but I still scored some strawberries, rhubarb, asparagus, sugar snap peas, and grass-fed beef), then came home and worked on a textbook and accompanying software.

Kaamelott -- BRILLIANT! Thanks for the link. Not just funny but I'll learn lots of those nifty French words that aren't in high school dictionaries too.
